Our Story
Desak Yoni
Founder of Bali In A Jar
Bali in a Jar is the brainchild of it's founder, Desak Yoni.
For years Desak had operated a popular eatery on the NSW coast in Newcastle called Bali Corner. Having built a loyal clientele, Desak realised there was a ready made market for providing authentic and tasty Balinese sauces that allowed the exotic flavours of the "Spice Islands" to be transferred to the everyday person's kitchen thereby allowing for quick, easy and extremely tasty Balinese meals to be prepared at home.
From that simple concept, Bali in a Jar was born. Initially produced from her restaurant kitchen in Newcastle, Desak moved the manufacture of the sauce to Bali in 2012. After further developing the product in Bali, Desak realised that to make the freshest, and tastiest possible range of sauces she would be better to relocate back to Australia where the sauces can be prepared mostly from fresh, and pesticide free Australian ingredients. This realisation became a reality in late 2016 when Desak and her family relocated to Adelaide, South Australia.
Desak's mission continues to create a unique range of sauces that bring to mind nostalgic memories of Bali (or perhaps to excite the mind of the possibility of memories to be gained in a future visit!), and that also allows the preparation of meals that don't waste precious family time, and that contain unforgettably exotic aromas and tastes.
Our Mission
At Bali In A Jar, we aim to provide you with sauces that allow you to create the flavours of Bali from the comfort of home. In Bali, traditional cooking involves using fresh ingredients rather than powdered or processed ingredients. In making our sauces, we adhere to the same principal - with fresh ingredients used in preference over cheaper ingredients. The result allows for dishes to be prepared that are full of flavour.
With the 3 sauces that are produced under the Bali In A Jar label you are able to prepare a large range of Balinese (and Indonesian) dishes. Recipes for those dishes are on this website and we are able to be contacted on our Facebook page should you have any query regarding either the products or preparing the recipes. We also encourage you to join our private Facebook group where users of the Bali In A Jar products swap recipe ideas and pictures in a friendly, non judgmental environment.
